When you think of Georgia, you think of peaches, southern charm, civil war and civil rights history, Hotlanta, or maybe the majestic live oak trees at Wormsloe Plantation near Savanah. But do you think of lush waterfalls, sweeping mountain views, beautiful vineyards, and charming mountain towns?

The southernmost portion of the Blue Ridge Mountains extend into Northern Georgia and provide something for everyone, especially for those interested in camping and getting outdoors. 4 Unique Camping Experiences in Georgia’s Blue Ridge Moutains

1. Tallulah Gorge State Park

Tallulah Gorge is one of the most popular attractions in the area and you shouldn’t miss the chance to camp at the state park. From the campground, you can hike directly to the North Rim Trail and to the beautiful platforms overlooking the 1,000-foot gorge. Also, you can hike the staircase down to an incredible bridge suspended 80 feet over the rushing gorge water below.

If you love adventure, get a gorge floor permit from the Interpretive Center (only 100 issued per day) and make the hike to the floor. The hike is strenuous and will definitely push your endurance, but you’ll be rewarded by making it to Bridal Veil Falls and sliding rock. Another great benefit of camping at Tallulah Gorge State Park is the park’s proximity to Clayton, GA. Clayton is a quaint mountain town with a wonderfully charming downtown area. All interested in camping will enjoy shopping at Wander North Georgia. This store is so cool. They have tons of outdoor gear and outdoor products, you can bring your pooch into the store, and they even sell some local craft beers. Also, while you are enjoying downtown Clayton, be sure to visit the rooftop patio at Clarks on Main and enjoy the sunset.

2. Tiger Drive-In Movie Theater

There are only 349 drive-in movie theaters remaining worldwide. And, Tiger Drive-In may be the only one where you can bring your RV and camp overnight. The drive-in is located only 10 minutes from Tallulah Gorge State Park, so don’t miss it when in the area. This classic drive-in is a blast from the past but has all of the modern technology to make it a great movie-going experience. On Friday and Saturday, the theater shows two movies.

You can camp overnight for only an extra $10, which is a pretty cool way to end a night out under the stars. There’s also a snack bar and a bathroom with a shower. What could be better?

3. The Cottage Vineyard and Winery

The Cottage Vineyard and Winery has been voted one of the top 25 wineries by Travel + Leisure. So, that should be enough of a reason to make this picturesque winery part of your travel plans. The tasting room offers a great experience. Aside from the great wine and spectacular 360-degree views, you may find yourself attending a festival or event with music and food trucks. Also, if you are overnight on Saturday, they offer a Sunday morning church service right in the tasting room.

Once you have enjoyed the winery, be sure to head over to Helen, GA. Helen is an unforgettable German town that is jam-packed with shops and restaurants. The town slogan is “it´s the charm of Bavaria, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains”. Each fall, the town puts on an award-winning Oktoberfest celebration which is something you shouldn’t miss.

4. Chattooga Belle Farm and Distillery

Ok so technically this isn’t in Georgia, but Chattooga Belle Farm in Long Creek, SC is only a 15-minute drive from Clayton, so it’s on the list. Sorry, not sorry 🙂
